St Peter's College Debating

St Peter's entered five teams in the Auckland Schools Debating Society in 2011 and we saw the Premier Junior Year 11 team reach the Quarter Finals, a considerable achievement - added to when it was announced that team leader Harrison Cunningham was awarded a Top 10 Speaker’s Award in the competition. Indeed, the popularity of debating was such that the school introduced debating into the regular Wednesday House Competition rounds. Debaters and student audiences had much pleasure from this. Thanks go to the teachers Sonia Stephen, Travis Moore and John Ryan, and to old boys Patrick Fitzgibbon and Brendan Abley, who each put in considerable effort to encourage the growth of debating in the school (and the wonderful skills it teaches!). We look forward to a great 2012 debating year!
