Co-Curricula
This encompasses all the activities outside the classroom, and essentially
covers sport, music and cultural activities.
St Peter’s offers a values-based all round education, and so we consider
it important that boys get involved in these activities.
Sport offers students the opportunity to take part in, and commit to, one or
more physical activities and in this context we encourage the striving for excellence.
We would like to see all students taking up a sport, as the team game enables
several life skills to be developed, such as working (and getting on!) with one’s
fellow man; of accepting unpalatable decisions; of taking the rough with the smooth.
We also ask for commitment from students, in that once they have signed up for
a sport or team, they continue with it for the season.
Music
offers students, again, the opportunity to develop a talent outside the conventional
classroom, and enables aesthetic values to be developed. Like sport, much of the
music at St Peter’s operates in a team environment (orchestras, bands and
small groups) and thus encourages teamwork and mutual trust between students.
Equally, we work for commitment to the instrument and the group, and aim for the
development of a life-long enjoyment of music and the pleasure of being able to
produce it.
The cultural side is offered to enable those students with a desire to build
on their roots, and we encourage them to develop these through participation in
festivals so that they have a pride in what they stand for and where they have
come from.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES 2004
The Maori, Samoan and Tongan groups are all practising hard for Polyfest,
the Polynesian cultural festival that takes place at the Manukau Sports Bowl from
18 to 20 March.
An interschools’ Kilikiti tournament took place at the Auckland domain
on 24 February , in which our team won one, and narrowly lost one. Unfortunately,
Kelston won both their games, so we did not make it through to the play offs.
