Principal's Introduction
The curriculum section
contains details of all Senior courses offered by St Peter’s
College. The information it contains has been produced to assist
you in selecting your subjects in the senior school. You are urged
to research your career and subject options thoroughly and to seek
advise, either through the Careers Department, or the appropriate
external agencies (websites are given). Study the “Subjects
Offered” list and which of these progress through the year
levels. Note those subjects that cease at years 11 or 12.
St Peter’s College offers a broad curriculum designed
for all ability levels with 2 pathways – Cambridge External Exams (CEE)
and NCEA. We encourage all our students to work hard and to achieve the highest
possible qualifications. The college is committed to providing the best possible
learning environment for our students with new classrooms, continually updating
technology and most importantly, maintaining a high quality staff.
External measures of academic learning by exams keeps a focus
on a individual’s progress. All boys are expected to work towards excellent
achievement in external exams. Tertiary entrance is a key concern of most students
and careful attention should be paid to this section. It may be possible to study
subjects from different levels. Students wishing to do this should discuss it
with their appropriate Dean. Final approval rests with the Director of Curriculum.
Helping your son choose his course of study is of the utmost
importance. It is probably the most important decision that has to be made as
he progresses through the college. I commend this handbook to you and hope that
you find the course descriptions of benefit as, together with your son, you decide
the courses your son will take in the coming year.
In His Peace
