The English Department Staff Profiles

 

Harvey Gangadeen – HOF

This is my 5th year of teaching at SPC. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here because of the success of my classes and through my extra work with the Young Vinnies, a charitable organisation in the school. I look forward to continued success.

John Geraets –

Brett Fricker  - Year 12 Dean

I have been at SPC since 1995 and currently oversee the Year 13 programme. As well as classroom teaching and Deaning, I run the Gateway programme that helps move students into apprenticeships.

Pat Griffith – TIC Drama

I have been teaching at SPC since 2001. I teach English and Drama, and I have also taught History and Social Studies. I particularly enjoy teaching CIE Literature. I have been involved in a multitude if activities at the college that include Cycling, Rugby League, Cricket, Tramping and Film-Making. I firmly believe that the boys need to be challenged and it’s a teacher’s job to provide positive challenges.

Kurt Anderson – English Teacher

This is my 1st year of teaching after many wonderful years at Auckland University. I gained a BA in English and History. I am excited to be part of the resurgent English Faculty and look forward to the year ahead.

Bill Lake – English Consultant

I retired in 2007 as Associate Principal at Selwyn College. Previously HoF English in 2 schools. I have taught English, French and Latin. I work with ESOL at SPC. My main interest is 16th/ 17th Century English Literature and 20th Century Poetry. I think that the Romantics are wet! Currently I work with BOTs.

Jenny Littmoden – Head of Literacy

I became TIC Literacy Centre in 2006. Prior to SPC I was a reading recovery teacher and an  RT:Lit for Years 1-8. In addition I am NEMP (Otago) teacher administrator and marker. Interested in diagnosing reading problems/ assessment in Literacy for low achievers.

Catherine Amos – Yr 8 English Rep

I have been teaching for 20 years in Auckland.  I have spent 15 years teaching at Year 8 level with my teaching focus being English and Science.  I have also spent many years teaching French at Years 8, 9 and 10.  I began teaching at SPC in 2005 during which time I have been involved with developing both the English and Science programmes for the Year 8 classes.  I teach this level full time and also organise student participation in the regional Science Fair for this level.

 

Alice Hickey – Year 7 English Rep

I have been teaching at SPC for several years. I am enjoying implementing the new CIE Checkpoint work into Year 7.

Colin Watkins – Year 9 English Teacher

I teach in the Year 9 homeroom. Prior to that I spent 17 years at Hillcrest High School in Hamilton. I enjoy teaching a range of subjects. My main areas of interest are ‘Boys Education’ and the relationship between academic learning and physical activity
