Rentokil 1st XV retain Hibernain Shield for another year
The 1st XV withstood a strong challenge from De La Salle to retain the Hibernain Shield for 2010. The First’s ran out eventual winners 22 – 10, scoring three tries to one.
Conrad Lam opened the scoring when he pounced on a De La Salle error. This try was soon followed up by another from second five, Blake Hall, who stormed over from a scrum move. De La Salle responded with a penalty to make the score 12 – 3 at halftime.
Despite having the wind in the second half the First’s struggled to gain quality territory and possession. However, the side’s defensive effort meant there lead never looked threatened. DJ Solomona scored the team’s only second half try.
Josh Cocker-Valu was awarded player of the day for some outstanding defence and powerful running. Bryn Hall had an excellent all round game at halfback. While in the forwards Zac Moimoi and Isaac Isaako led the way in the close quarter exchanges.
