Special Character - Prayer
Morning and Afternoon Prayer
It is a strong tradition that there be prayer at the start
of each
day in form time. Since 1992 we have also returned to the practice of having a
short time of prayer at the end of the day. If you are not Christian then ask
one of the students to lead the prayer. Prayer in Catholic tradition starts and
ends with the sign of the cross. The students would have no problems with you
not making the sign of the cross with them if you are not Catholic.
The
morning prayer should be a few minutes long. Traditionally, a short
prayer is said, followed by the St Peter's College Prayer
The afternoon
prayer could be a time of quiet reflection or the saying of a traditional
prayer such as the Our Father or the Hail Mary etc. If you need
any help just ask. The boys should know the school prayer.

Lord we dedicate ourselves to you
may we give witness of your care
and concern for each other,
recognising you in ourselves and others.
May we always live our motto to love and to serve,
remembering especially the disadvantaged of the world.
Grant us the strength to seek truth so to
act with justice
and live according to the values of your Gospel.
Guide us through life until our journey ends with you.

Retreats
During the
year, form classes will “go on retreat”. Year 11 is the exception,
as they take part in a separate, but similar programme to the
retreats. The College sees the retreat experience as important.
Religious Studies have become very knowledge-centred so the experiential
approach of the retreat fills an important role. The retreats
are run by an outside team. Each level has a different theme.
The activities vary from esteem building to community building
to challenging the students in their relationship with their God.
The Form teacher usually goes with the class.
