The St Peter’s College Rowing tradition was introduced by Brother F.P. O’Driscoll in 1941 built was quickly discontinued in 1944, only to be reintroduced 60+ years later in 2005, by then principal Kieran Fouhy. After a faltering start, rowing has since established itself as a principal sport at the school alongside fixtures like rugby, football and basketball.
Our SPCR program is demanding. Our squad is made up of 45 young athletes which we select from Year 9 through to Year 13 students; we have a coaching team of 4 led by our Director of Rowing Cameron Patten; and they are supported by the squads parents and families. The squad trains and competes eight months out of 12, with off-season training and individual work -on programs in preparation for the next season.
Our St Peter’s College Rowing (SPCR) squad is relatively small but we are mighty! We are currently ranked amongst the best secondary schools in New Zealand having competed at MAADI 2020/21, concluding the regatta ranked 3rd sculling rowing secondary school and 6th overall NZ rowing secondary school. No mean feat for a fixture that is 15 years young at our school!
Rowing Uniform is ordered through the sports office; all items need to be paid for prior to collection.
