St Peter’s Certificate – Te Ara o Hato Petera

As part of St Peter’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and future-focused learning, St Peter’s College has undertaken a comprehensive review of our current assessment model for Year 11 students on the NCEA pathway.

Following the recent announcement that NCEA Level One will be discontinued nationally from 2028, the college has decided to cease offering Level One from 2026.

From 2026 onward, we will implement our own assessment structure: the St Peter’s Certificate – Te Ara o Hato Petera (The Path of St Peter). This new qualification is designed to provide a more rigourous and meaningful learning experience for our young men, better preparing them for the demands of Year 12 and beyond.

The St Peter’s Certificate will combine in-school assessments with examinations, encouraging consistent engagement and deeper learning throughout the year. We believe this model will also help address some senior students not taking examinations seriously enough, by building stronger exam readiness from Year 11.

Further details about the St Peter’s Certificate are outlined in the attached PDF.

Please note that this change applies only to students on the NCEA pathway. The IGCSE programme will remain unchanged. However, boys on the Cambridge pathway can still earn this award – this is explained in the PDF document
