Cycling
The MTB / Cycling Club includes both road cycling and mountain biking, and many students compete in both disciplines. Cycling at St Peter’s is open to all students from years 7 to 13.
We encourage anyone interested to register with the school through the registration form link above – and then contact the coaching coordinators about upcoming training, learn-to-ride or race events.
Mountain Biking
New riders
Mountain Biking at St Peter’s is open to all students from years 7 to 13.
We ride together every Sunday (weather permitting), from term 1 to the end of term 3.
We aim to build skills and fitness, and compete in as many races as possible, but most importantly we like to get out on the trails and have fun.
We welcome new club members at any time, but the best time to join is at the start of the year.
In 2026, we’ll be running a training block for new members for four weeks, every Sunday morning from 15 February to 8 March.
The sessions will be at 9am, at Woodhill MTB Park. If you’re interested, try to come for one or all of those sessions.
Please complete the expression of interest form (at the top of this page), so that we know who’s coming.
If you have any questions, please contact Neil Sheldon, neil.sheldon05@gmail.com.
Training
MTB training is on Sunday mornings, usually at Woodhill – although we train in other locations around Auckland in preparation for races.
Parents are encouraged to join in training sessions if they are riders.
Competitions
The MTB season is built around a series of five schools-only cross-country races between early March and early-September run by the Auckland MTB club – https://aucklandmtb.co.nz/schools/.
There are other races during the year open for students to race, including AIMS, North Island Schools and Nationals competitions, and other Enduro and Downhill races.
The dates and locations of these races will be set during the year.
Equipment
You don’t need to buy a new bike before you join. It’s best to come to these sessions on a bike you’re familiar with.
Just make sure that the tyres hold air and that the brakes work. We can give you plenty of advice on upgrading your bike if you decide you want to do this.
HELMETS ARE COMPULSORY.
Other than that, just bring your enthusiasm and we’ll help you out with the rest.
Parent Participation
Mountain-biking is a parent-led sport at SPC. We ask parents to get involved in whatever way they can. If you have a bike, please come along and ride with the kids whenever possible. If this isn’t your thing, we might ask you to help out in some other way during the year.
Costs
Bikes are expensive, so we try to keep other costs to a minimum. You can wear your SPC PE shirt during races. You’ll also need to pay race entry fees, which vary between $20 and $50 per race.

Road Cycling
New riders
If you are new to Road cycling, we encourage you to give it a go by coming along to the muster for new riders. Details to be advised.
Road Cycling competitions
The road racing season primarily focuses on a series of Team Time Trials, which are held on Sunday mornings. There are also a number of individual events like Points Races. Later in the year, there are other events, including the North Island Championships, Northern Tour and the National Championships.
Road Cycling training
We do two mid-week training sessions, one road ride and one spin session at the school on stationary bikes. Road training is usually held on Saturdays. Parents are encouraged to join in training sessions if possible.
Costs
- Road Cycling Fee – $600 (to be confirmed dependent on member numbers)
- Road Cycling Team Skin Suit – $150 (to be paid once ordered)
Once registration has been confirmed, St Peter’s College will send you an invoice to be paid online.
